    Grow

SO WHAT DO BELIEVERS NEED TO GROW?

Three things are critical for believers. First, a new Christian needs to be taught basic doctrines of the faith. There are hints in the epistles that the early church had identified basic teachings that they wanted new believers to learn. We’ve made it our goal in the first two years of the Journey to give Christians a working knowledge in basic Christian doctrines by encouraging them to work through a best-selling series of Bible studies called “Design For Discipleship”.

    WHAT ELSE IS NEEDED?

It is absolutely essential in Year One of a new believer’s faith that we also teach them how to have their own relationship with Jesus. A second prong of the Journey is to teach that new believer how to read the Bible for themselves and to carry on a conversation with God through prayer. So we will teach them two basic Bible reading methods, provide them with a track of Bible books to read first, then give them hands-on training in how to have their own quiet time with God.

WHAT’S THE THIRD THING THAT’S NEEDED?

The third component of the Journey is to connect that new believer with a small group of 4-6 people who can encourage them, pray for them and study with them. The corporate provision is probably the linchpin of the whole process. It provides a layer of accountability and protection which is so important for a new believer to have in their first year of faith.
